Whether you’re the bride who has pinned 1000 bouquets or the one who has never thought about flowers in her life, deciding on the florals for your wedding can be a daunting task. We enlisted one of the most talented florists, Alison Franchi - owner of La Petite Gardenia, to give us the inside scoop on selecting wedding florals.
When choosing your wedding flowers, Alison says, I recommend that you ask yourself the following 4 questions:
1. What flowers make you smile? Choosing flowers that are tied to a wonderful memory or invoke a sense of warmth and happiness is a great place to start.
2. What is your favorite color palette? We encourage our brides to think of 2-3 specific colors, and to describe the saturation they like best - if you’re considering pink wedding flowers, think blush pink versus fuchsia. Your florist may be familiar with flowers that you may never have heard of (Juliet roses! White poppy anemones!) and this information will help them direct you towards options that will thrill you.
3. What is the seasonal availability? Being mindful of the flowers that will be in season when your wedding takes place will help you pick flowers that are eco-friendly and are more affordable. It’s a win-win!
4. What style and texture are you most attracted to? Some brides swoon over organic bouquets with equal parts flowers and greenery while others love a classic, cleaner look. Communicating your preference for the types of arrangements you like will help your florist craft arrangements that fulfill your vision perfectly.
With so many gorgeous options for wedding day flowers, having a sense of the colors and style you love most will help you to successfully collaborate with your florist to create stunning florals for your wedding day.
